Health sciences librarian Duties and responsibilities: The Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL)
supports academic health sciences libraries and directors in advancing the
patient care, research, education and community service missions of academic
health centers through visionary executive leadership and expertise in health
information, scholarly communication, and knowledge management.
AAHSL promotes the success of its members through relevant
programming and services; benchmarking; advocacy; partnerships with like-minded
organizations; and the development of a community of colleagues.
Salary: $48,363
Education: Students
must graduate from high school, taking classes such as English, math, typing,
and science. A four-year bachelor's degree is then required, including courses
such as science and computer science. A master's degree in library science
(MLS) is mandatory. Courses include scientific literature, biomedical
communication, bibliographic resource use, library organization and management,
and standard cataloging systems. While health science librarians are not
required to be certified, the Medical Library Association does offer
certification examinations which would help a librarian advance to a higher
position.
Reflection: I would not
like to be a Health sciences librarian because I would not like to.
